The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations recently awarded India’s Prime Minister with the prestigious Agricola Medal for India’s contribution to agriculture, food security, and rural development. This award is one of FAO’s highest honours and recognizes efforts made toward improving global agriculture and reducing hunger and poverty.
The award highlighted India’s work in supporting farmers, promoting sustainable farming practices, and encouraging the use of modern technology in agriculture. Special attention was given to initiatives related to climate-friendly farming, financial support for farmers, digital agriculture, and the promotion of nutritious traditional grains like millets.
During the event, the recognition was dedicated to India’s farmers, agricultural scientists, and rural communities for their important role in strengthening the country’s food and nutrition security. The ceremony also reflected India’s growing contribution to global agricultural development and sustainable food systems.
FAO officials appreciated India’s farmer-focused policies and technology-based agricultural initiatives that aim to improve productivity, sustainability, and rural livelihoods. The recognition also shows India’s active participation in global efforts related to sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and long-term food security.
