An awareness programme on millet cultivation was recently conducted in Handwara by the Division of Agronomy to promote sustainable farming practices and increase knowledge about the benefits of millets among farmers and rural communities.

During the programme, agricultural experts explained the nutritional value and environmental advantages of millet crops, emphasizing their suitability for regions facing water scarcity and changing climate conditions. Farmers were encouraged to adopt millet cultivation because these crops require less irrigation, fewer chemical inputs, and can perform well under difficult weather conditions.

The event also focused on educating participants about improved farming methods, modern cultivation practices, and the economic opportunities associated with millet production. To support local cultivation efforts, quality millet seeds were distributed among attendees for future agricultural use.

The programme highlighted the growing importance of millets in strengthening food security, improving soil sustainability, and promoting climate-resilient agriculture. Such initiatives aim to encourage eco-friendly farming while supporting the livelihoods and nutritional well-being of rural populations.
