Ukraine’s 2026 spring sowing season is progressing steadily, with nearly 43% of the planned agricultural land already planted with spring crops. Farmers across the country have sown millions of hectares with grain and legume crops, including wheat, barley, peas, oats, corn, and millet. Several regions, especially in central and southern Ukraine, are leading the cultivation drive as the country continues efforts to maintain stable agricultural production.

Along with major cereals, farmers have also started planting crops such as sunflower, soybeans, sugar beet, and buckwheat. Millet cultivation continues to remain part of Ukraine’s crop diversification strategy because of its resilience and ability to adapt to changing climatic conditions. Agricultural experts believe diversified cropping helps strengthen food security and supports the country’s farming economy.

Despite ongoing challenges such as rising input costs, labour shortages, and disruptions linked to the war, Ukraine’s agricultural sector has continued its sowing activities with determination. Officials and industry experts say the successful progress of the spring campaign is important not only for domestic food supplies but also for maintaining Ukraine’s role in the global grain market.
