India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the food processing sector has significantly encouraged investment, innovation, and growth in the industry, attracting investments exceeding ₹9,200 crore in recent years. The scheme has strengthened food manufacturing infrastructure while supporting the expansion of value-added and millet-based food products.
The initiative has created new opportunities for companies, including MSMEs, to develop Ready-to-Eat and Ready-to-Cook millet products in response to rising consumer demand for healthy and sustainable foods. By promoting millet processing and exports, the scheme is also helping increase the global visibility of Indian millet products.
Along with boosting domestic production, the PLI scheme is contributing to employment generation, technological advancement, and improved competitiveness in the food processing sector. The growing focus on millet-based products further highlights India’s efforts to encourage nutritious, climate-resilient, and sustainable food systems.
