Amid growing global uncertainties impacting agriculture, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has set up a specialized task force to reinforce the resilience of India’s farming sector.
The decision comes as agriculture faces increasing challenges from climate change, geopolitical tensions, and disruptions in global trade and supply chains. To address these concerns, the task force will bring together scientific experts and policymakers to evaluate potential risks and develop effective response strategies.
Its primary focus will be on safeguarding crop production, ensuring national food security, and protecting farmers’ incomes. The group is also expected to promote climate-resilient farming practices, strengthen research and innovation, and improve coordination across institutions involved in agricultural development.
Another key objective is to build a responsive system that can quickly adapt to changing conditions, reducing the impact of unforeseen challenges on agricultural output. Enhancing collaboration between researchers, government bodies, and the farming community will be central to achieving these goals.
Through this initiative, ICAR aims to create a more robust and future-ready agricultural ecosystem capable of withstanding global pressures while sustaining productivity and growth.
