The United States millet industry is gaining momentum as demand grows for sustainable and nutritious grains. States such as Colorado, Nebraska, and South Dakota continue to lead millet cultivation due to the crop’s drought tolerance and low water requirements. Millets are increasingly being recognised as climate-resilient grains suited for dryland agriculture.
Beyond traditional feed use, millet is now finding wider applications in gluten-free flours, snacks, cereals, and health-focused food products. Rising consumer interest in ancient grains and clean-label foods is encouraging food companies to expand millet-based offerings across the American market.
The U.S. millet trade is also growing steadily, with exports reaching several international markets while imports help meet rising domestic demand. Experts believe continued investment in millet processing and value-added products could further strengthen the crop’s role in the country’s food and agriculture sectors.
