The National Security Guard (NSG), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in partnership with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, organized a ‘Millet Mela’ at the NSG Hyderabad Regional Hub in Ibrahimpatnam. The event aimed to raise awareness among NSG personnel and their families about the health and nutritional benefits of incorporating millets into their diets.
The Millet Mela was inaugurated by Dr. C Tara Satyavathi, Director of ICAR-IIMR, who emphasized the importance of adding millets to daily meals for better health. She highlighted the nutritional value of millets and encouraged all attendees to make these nutrient-rich grains a regular part of their diets. Experts at the event explained how millets can combat malnutrition, improve gut health, and increase dietary diversity. They also discussed the role of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) supported by ICAR-IIMR in advancing millet cultivation, value addition, and market accessibility.
Family members of NSG personnel actively participated in the event, preparing and sharing a variety of millet-based dishes, including Ragi porridge, Sorghum kichadi, Millet idli, and Jowar roti. The Millet Mela served as a great platform to promote awareness about millets’ role in improving health, sustainability, and food security. It also emphasized the importance of community involvement in adopting healthier dietary changes. The event was coordinated by Dr. Sangappa, Shri Abbuseat, and Shri Shiva from ICAR-IIMR.
