Bengaluru to Host International Millet Festival in January 2025

 

Minister for Agriculture, N. Cheluvarayaswamy, announced on Saturday that Bengaluru will host the International Millet Festival on January 23, 24, and 25, 2025. Ahead of this grand event, Krishi Mela and Millet Mela will be organized in every district as preparatory activities.

Speaking at the inauguration of the "Millet Walk" (Siridhanya Nadige) organized by the Department of Agriculture, the Minister highlighted the health benefits of millets, calling them the "healthiest foods." He emphasized the State government’s efforts to promote millet cultivation and encouraged farmers to participate in expert discussions and adopt innovative suggestions for growing healthier crops on their lands.

In addition, the Minister announced that Mandya will host the Millet Mela next month, urging the public to support the department's initiatives.

He also described the ongoing 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya as a "historic" event, noting that such a grand program had not been held in the region in recent memory. The Minister praised the public for their positive feedback and acknowledged their happiness with the government’s efforts in organizing the Sammelana, which has attracted visitors from across the State.

The Millet Walk began at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mandya and concluded at the Sammelana venue, symbolizing the region’s commitment to promoting millet cultivation and awareness.

At the International Millet Festival in Bengaluru, national and international experts, key players in the millet industry, and technology leaders will come together to engage in discussions aimed at advancing large-scale millet production and promotion
