Call to Help Tobacco Farmers Transition to Oilseeds and Millets Gets ATF Support

The Anti-Tobacco Forum (ATF) has welcomed the appeal made by Members of Parliament asking tobacco farmers in Karnataka to shift from growing tobacco to oilseed crops and millets.

ATF said this change would benefit farmers, public health, and the environment. Cultivating oilseeds and millets can provide farmers with more stable and sustainable income while improving soil health and reducing farming risks.

The forum also stressed that farmers should be supported during this transition. This includes providing quality seeds, training, financial assistance, and proper market access so farmers can switch to alternative crops without losses.

ATF urged both the State and Central governments to work together to help farmers adopt oilseeds and millets and ensure long-term economic stability in tobacco-growing regions.
