Farmers in Southern Madagascar to Benefit from New Agri Initiative

Madagascar has launched a new partnership with DEFIS, ICRISAT, and FOFIFA to improve food security in its drought-affected southern regions. The initiative aims to support farmers by promoting better agricultural practices and strengthening resilience to climate challenges.

A key focus of the programme is the cultivation of climate-resilient crops such as millets, sorghum, and groundnut. These crops can grow well in dry conditions and help improve both food availability and nutrition for local communities.

The project will also provide improved seeds, training, and technical support to farmers, while strengthening local seed systems and small agribusinesses. Over the next 30 months, it is expected to benefit thousands of farmers and contribute to a more sustainable and secure agricultural future.
