Security has been increased in Gaya ahead of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s visit today. Officials have made detailed arrangements to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the programme.
The visit is part of his “Samriddhi Yatra,” where he will review ongoing development work and key agricultural initiatives in the region. A major highlight of the visit is the Centre of Excellence on Millet Value Chain in Mayapur village of Tankuppa block. This centre focuses on promoting millet cultivation, processing, and value addition.
Millets, often called “nutri-cereals,” are gaining importance because they are rich in fibre, protein, and essential minerals like iron and calcium. They are also climate-resilient crops that require less water and can grow well in dry and poor soil conditions. Promoting millets can help farmers improve their income while supporting sustainable agriculture.
The Centre of Excellence is expected to support farmers by providing training, improved seed varieties, and modern processing techniques. It also aims to strengthen the entire millet value chain, from production to market, and encourage the development of millet-based products.
To manage the Chief Minister’s visit, additional police personnel have been deployed at key locations. Traffic control and crowd management measures have also been put in place.
Officials have confirmed that all preparations are complete to ensure a safe and well-organised visit, while also highlighting the growing importance of millets in improving nutrition and supporting farmers’ livelihoods.
