Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has underlined the government’s focus on promoting millets within the armed forces while also working to improve the welfare of farmers. Addressing a gathering in Madhya Pradesh, he said the initiative strengthens the connection between the country’s soldiers and its farming community.

He pointed out that millet-based foods such as jowar, bajra, and ragi are now being included in the diets of defence personnel. This not only enhances the nutritional value of meals served to soldiers but also creates consistent demand for millet crops, offering better income opportunities for farmers.

In addition, the government is encouraging the supply of organically grown fruits and vegetables from farmers located near military establishments. This ensures access to fresh and safe food for the armed forces while providing farmers with reliable market linkages.

The minister stressed that such efforts are helping promote sustainable farming practices and improving rural livelihoods. He also highlighted the importance of adopting modern technology, encouraging youth participation, and supporting innovation in agriculture.

Overall, the initiative reflects a balanced approach that supports both national nutrition needs and farmer prosperity, while strengthening the role of millets in the country’s food system.
