The Gujarat government is set to organise a state-wide Millet Mahotsav along with a Natural Farmer Market on March 21 and 22 across 16 cities. The main event will be held at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, while similar programmes will take place simultaneously in other major cities such as Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar.

This initiative is being organised by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation under the state’s Agriculture Department. The objective is to promote millets, popularly known as “Shree Anna,” and encourage people to include them in their daily diet for better health and nutrition.

During the two-day event, farmers, farmer producer organisations, and local entrepreneurs will set up stalls to directly sell millet-based products to consumers. This direct interaction will help farmers receive better prices and reduce the role of intermediaries.

The festival will also feature food stalls, live demonstrations, exhibitions, agri-technology displays, and participation from startups and women entrepreneurs. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore, taste, and purchase a wide variety of millet-based foods.

The Millet Mahotsav aims to raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of millets, support natural farming practices, and strengthen the link between farmers and consumers while improving farmers’ income.
