The ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) in Hyderabad marked the 3rd Foundation Day of the Global Centre of Excellence on Millets. The event focused on the growing importance of millets in improving nutrition, supporting farmers, and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Experts and officials who attended the programme appreciated the institute’s work in advancing millet research and development. They highlighted the need to strengthen the entire millet value chain, from production to market, and to provide better support for farmers and farmer groups.

The institute has been working on developing improved millet varieties and encouraging the production of value-added products. It is also helping farmers adopt modern technologies and connect with better market opportunities, which can increase their income and resilience.

During the event, new technologies and publications were released, and awards were given to individuals and organizations for their contributions to millet promotion and research. Farmer Producer Organizations were also recognized for their efforts.

An important highlight of the programme was the signing of an agreement to promote the commercialization of millet-based technologies. This step is expected to boost business opportunities and strengthen partnerships in the sector. The event demonstrated the important role of the Global Centre of Excellence on Millets in supporting sustainable agriculture, improving nutrition, and advancing the millet industry in India.
