India Declared Millets as Superfood to the World: Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced to the world that while millets were historically neglected in India, they are now recognized globally as superfoods. Under the encouragement of the current BJP government, millet demand has surged worldwide, with Modi himself promoting their consumption, including during his recent visit to the White House where millet-based meals were served.

Rajasthan plays a significant role in millet production, particularly of grains like sorghum and pearl millet, being a leader in this sector long before it gained international recognition as a superfood in 2023, declared by the US government during the International Year of Millets. Unlike previous governments that neglected small grains farmers, the BJP administration provides incentives and support to farmers cultivating millets, aiming to promote their cultivation globally and raise awareness about their health benefits among people.

Already, the Rajasthan government has been distributing subsidies effectively to farmers growing small grains, demonstrating its commitment. With the impact of the International Year of Millets, public awareness about the health benefits of millets is increasing, paving the way for expanded cultivation and accessibility at lower costs in the coming years, aided by various government initiatives.
