Millet Cultivation Seen as Key to Sustainable Farming in J&K

 

The central government is ready to offer financial and technical support to promote millet cultivation across the country. This was highlighted by Sat Sharma, who encouraged Jammu and Kashmir to take the initiative in adopting millet farming.

He explained that millets are nutritious, require less water, and can grow well in difficult conditions. Because of these benefits, they are considered a good option for sustainable agriculture and improving farmers’ incomes.

Sharma urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to make use of the support provided by the central government. He said that promoting millets in the region can help improve food security, support better nutrition, and protect the environment.

He also mentioned that various government schemes are available to assist farmers with funding, training, and modern farming methods.
