AIZAWL: Mizoram's Agriculture Minister, P C Vanlalruata, announced on Tuesday(22nd October) that the state government will take initiatives to promote millet production. Speaking at a function focused on millet promotion in India, Vanlalruata highlighted the state's strong potential for millet cultivation due to its favorable climate.
He noted that in the past, millet was widely cultivated alongside rice in the state and emphasized the importance of reviving millet farming with modern agricultural techniques.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in collaboration with the North-Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) under the DoNER ministry, attracted many farmers and entrepreneurs from the region.
NERAMAC Managing Director, Commodore Rajiv Ashok, emphasized the health and nutritional benefits of millets and their potential as a sustainable alternative to rice. He also underscored the central government's ongoing efforts to increase millet production.
Around 12 stalls showcasing various millet products were set up at the event.
