Samwartak Singh, Additional Secretary to the Government of Haryana, said that millets are not only rich in nutrients but also play an important role in maintaining good health.
He was speaking at the Millet Mela held at the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. The event was organised to create awareness about the health benefits of millets and the importance of eating balanced, nutritious food.
Nutrition experts from the Dietician Department of PGI Chandigarh also addressed the gathering. Dr. Kumari Muskan and Dr. Angel Preet explained that regular consumption of millets, in the right quantity, can help manage health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and digestive problems. They also shared practical tips on how to include millets in daily meals.
The fair showcased a wide range of millet-based foods and dishes, giving visitors an opportunity to learn how these traditional grains can be easily used in everyday cooking.
Millets are traditional cereal grains that are rich in fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals. When included in regular diets, they support digestion and overall health.
The event was attended by officials, CISF personnel and their families. The programme aimed to educate people about healthy eating habits and promote the use of traditional grains like millets in daily life.
