The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a new ration distribution program to make sure essential food items reach people in a fair and timely way. The program was officially started by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar at a fair price shop in Vakalapudi village, near Kakinada.
Minister Manohar said that fair price shops will soon be upgraded into mini-malls, with support from both the central and state governments. Along with rice, nutritious grains like ragi, jowar, bajra, and korra (millets) will be given to improve people’s health.
To show the importance of the program, the minister personally delivered rations to the home of an elderly man named Krishnasetty Gopal. On the first day alone, about 8.15 lakh families received their rations from nearly 29,761 shops across the state.
The minister also criticized the old mobile delivery system used by the previous government, saying it was unclear and lacked proper records. He said the new system is more transparent and reliable. He also announced that QR code scanners will be added at ration depots so people can give direct feedback.
Minister Manohar shared that the government had bought ₹12,400 crore worth of paddy from farmers and credited payments to 8 lakh farmers within 24 hours — something no other state has done. He also mentioned that ₹894 crore has been allocated to give a second LPG gas cylinder to women under the Deepam scheme. Pension distribution has also started door-to-door from the 1st of every month.
Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur said the government is tracking ration deliveries every 10 minutes to ensure everything runs smoothly. He urged ration dealers to treat people with respect and address any problems quickly.
In Kakinada district, Joint Collector Rahul Meena said that there are 1,060 ration shops in 21 mandals, and all are working to deliver supplies efficiently.
Many local leaders and officials attended the launch, including Kakinada Rural MLA Pantam Nanaji, former ministers, and party representatives. Earlier in the day, the minister also launched the program in Pithapuram, which is represented by Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.
This new program aims to make the public distribution system more effective, so that all people in the state can get essential goods easily and on time.
