Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed integrating food habit education into the school curriculum to promote healthier lifestyles among students. During a presentation on district-wise health reports at the Secretariat, he emphasized the importance of dietary awareness and advocated for the consumption of millets and unpolished rice to achieve a "healthy, wealthy, and happy Andhra."
The Chief Minister recommended practical measures for families, such as limiting monthly consumption to 600 grams of salt, 2 liters of cooking oil, and 3 kilograms of sugar. He also advised incorporating a 30-minute daily walk to reduce mental stress and highlighted the benefits of yoga, physical exercise, and meditation. Naidu noted that yoga, a part of India's heritage, is now embraced worldwide for its health benefits.
Addressing agricultural practices, Naidu urged farmers to adopt natural farming methods, cautioning against the excessive use of pesticides, which has led to health crises in regions like Punjab. He also pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is leading in implementing Ayushman Bharat health accounts, with accounts created for nearly 88% of the population. Furthermore, he cited initiatives from other states, such as Kerala's introduction of sugar-free school meals and Tamil Nadu's provision of free glucose test strips at ration shops, as models to consider.
