Odisha Plans to Become India’s Millet Hub with ‘Shree Anna Abhiyan’

Odisha is working hard to become a leading state in millet farming with its new program called Shree Anna Abhiyan. Launched by the state government, this plan aims to grow more millets, increase their use in daily meals, and create better markets for farmers who grow them.

As part of the program, the government will help farmers with good-quality seeds, training, and financial support. Millets will also be added to meals in schools, anganwadi centres, and ration shops, so that more people—especially children and women—can enjoy their health benefits. Millets are not only nutritious but also good for the environment because they need less water to grow.

The Shree Anna Abhiyan also supports local businesses and women’s self-help groups by helping them process and sell millet products. With the success of the earlier Odisha Millets Mission, this new campaign will make millet farming more profitable and improve food security across the state.
