Bollywood actress Bhagyashree has partnered with the Sorghum United Foundation to promote the benefits of sorghum and millets. In an interview with agricultural advocate Nate Blum, they discussed the importance of these nutritious, water-efficient grains in global food systems.

Despite their high nutritional value, millets and sorghum are often overlooked in favor of staple grains like rice. Blum emphasized that these resilient crops are economical, sustainable, and capable of thriving in arid regions, making them essential for food security, especially in the face of climate change.

A significant challenge in increasing the consumption of millets and sorghum is the lack of awareness among consumers and manufacturers. Bhagyashree highlighted that soaking millets makes them easier to digest and that they can be used in various recipes, including biscuits and bread. Blum added that cooking these grains is straightforward, similar to preparing rice.

Scientific research supports the health benefits of sorghum and millets, noting their positive effects on gut health, heart health, and diabetes management. Bhagyashree mentioned that sorghum's alkaline properties aid digestion and help combat acid reflux.

To raise awareness, Sorghum United is developing educational initiatives, including the "Sorgho Squad" book series and a gaming app aimed at engaging young audiences. Bhagyashree praised these efforts as crucial steps toward promoting food security and sustainability.
