Union Minister Jitendra Singh has inaugurated the foundation for a 30-room single-occupancy hostel at the Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru, aiming to enhance training facilities in the food processing sector.
The hostel, being developed under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), will provide accommodation for trainees such as farmers, entrepreneurs, self-help group members, and Farmer Producer Organisations. Once completed, it will offer comfortable residential facilities along with essential services to support participants attending training programmes.
The new infrastructure is expected to improve access to skill development initiatives by allowing trainees from different regions to stay on campus and benefit from hands-on learning in food processing, value addition, and related fields.
During the visit, the minister also reviewed ongoing work at the institute, including efforts to promote millets through research and product development. He highlighted the growing demand for millet-based foods and the role of such initiatives in supporting nutrition and sustainable agriculture.
This development reflects a broader effort to strengthen the connection between research institutions and practical training, helping farmers and small businesses adopt modern technologies and improve their income opportunities.
Overall, the project is expected to boost capacity building in the food processing sector while supporting the promotion of millets and other nutritious crops.
