Chandigarh Millets Ambassador Guneet Swani Highlights Emotional Connection with Food in TEDx Talk

Chandigarh Millets Ambassador Guneet Swani has introduced a new idea about how food connects with our emotions. Her recent TEDx talk focused on this concept, which she calls “The Importance of Food as an Emotion in Our Lives.”

At the TEDx event, themed “Past, Present, and Future,” Guneet shared her unique perspective on how food affects our feelings. Her talk was so impactful that it earned her special praise from Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who was the Chief Guest.

Guneet’s presentation was well-received for its fresh and deep insights. She explained that food is more than just nutrition—it also helps fill emotional gaps in our lives. For example, the smell of a favorite dish can bring back childhood memories, and sharing meals with loved ones can create a sense of belonging. “Food has been a guide, reflecting our emotions,” she said.

In an interview after the event, Guneet explained that food connects our past, present, and future. It ties together traditions with modern ideas and keeps our cultural practices alive through recipes. Food provides comfort during both happy and sad times, making it a crucial part of our lives.

Guneet is leading a health movement in Chandigarh by promoting millet as a nutritious and eco-friendly food choice. She believes food is more than just calories—it’s deeply linked to our emotions. “When we're hungry, we might feel irritable or ‘hangry,’ showing how important it is to care for our gut. We should appreciate food, not just judge it,” she noted.

Guneet also highlighted that food crosses cultural and national boundaries, connecting people and evoking memories. Her work in 2023, the International Year of Millets, brought millets into the spotlight and underscored their role in environmental sustainability and agricultural health.
