From ₹2,500 Salary to ‘Millet Mom’ Haryana Woman Empowers 150 Women

A woman from Haryana has turned a modest beginning into a successful millet-based enterprise, earning recognition as the “Millet Mom.” Her inspiring journey shows how determination and entrepreneurship can transform lives and support communities.

Pooja Sharma started her career in 2008 as a worker with a non-governmental organisation, earning just ₹2,500 per month. Through her work, she interacted closely with rural communities, which helped her gain confidence and motivated her to start her own venture. Later, she began a small dairy business and gradually improved her financial situation.

A turning point came when she attended training on millet processing at a Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Using the knowledge she gained, she formed a self-help group with other women and started producing millet-based food products. Over time, their products gained attention at exhibitions and local markets.

Today, her initiative provides employment to about 20 women and supports nearly 150 others through self-help groups. With the launch of her brand “Millet Mom,” she continues to promote millet-based foods while creating livelihood opportunities for women in her community.
