Government Providing Free Millets Production Incentives

The Indian government is promoting millet production to improve public health standards, collaborating with small grain farmers. Both the central and state governments are actively involved in this initiative. Recently, the Rajasthan government announced providing free seeds to farmers growing millets. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, stated, 'We are distributing seeds for 12 lakh farmers for maize cultivation, 8 lakh for pearl millets, 4 lakh for pulses, and 1 lakh for sorghum.'

The state agriculture department official confirmed in a statement that subsidies are being provided to farmers for these crops starting from the current fiscal year. According to him, Rajasthan contributes 26% to the total millet production in the country, and 41% to pearl millets alone.

The Rajasthan government is actively promoting millets and allocated ₹40 crore for this purpose in the annual budget. They also emphasized the inclusion of millets in hotel menus across the state. Millets not only contribute to public health but also provide economic benefits to cultivating farmers. The central government also offers various incentives for millet cultivation nationwide. In the coming years, the Indian government aims to make millet cultivation a primary focus for agricultural development.
