Swiss tech company Bühler India is teaming up with Nutrihub, a tech incubator supported by the Department of Science and Technology at the Indian Institute of Millet Research (ICAR-IIMR) in Hyderabad. Their goal is to improve millet processing technologies and boost the use of millets in Indian industries.

Bühler India has announced this new partnership to address challenges in processing millet. The collaboration aims to enhance the shelf life, flour quality, and efficiency of millet processing. Currently, only about 2 million out of 19-20 million tonnes of millet produced in India are processed industrially. A major focus will be researching the best grinding methods to produce high-quality products, using Bühler’s Application Center and Analytical Laboratory.

This partnership combines Bühler India's expertise in processing technology with IIMR's extensive knowledge of millets. According to Shashidhar Subramanya, Bühler India's Head of Corporate Technology, IIMR is dedicated to increasing millet productivity and expanding its use in India.

Together, they will study how different milling technologies affect various types of millets and find the best methods for milling millets for different products. Nutrihub CEO B. Dayakar Rao emphasized that this research aims to improve the efficiency, quality, and versatility of millet products, potentially opening new markets and uses for millet processing worldwide.
