In India, there is a growing trend of including millets in daily diets. Awareness about these ancient grains, recognized not only in our country but also globally, is on the rise. As a result, people are increasingly incorporating millets into their everyday meals.
In Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Thrissur, and Ernakulam districts of Kerala, "Kerala Agro" stores have been successfully inaugurated. Agriculture Minister P. Prasad has announced plans to expand the establishment of these stores to additional districts soon. He emphasized that Kerala Agro stores will offer premium-quality fruits and vegetables cultivated using organic and sustainable agricultural methods.
Several states in India have begun integrating millets into their diets. Recently, the Kerala state government took a significant step by introducing millet-based products to the public. Agriculture Minister P. Prasad announced the launch of millet cafes across the state. Additionally, "Kerala Agro" stores are being set up to offer organic food items such as fruits and vegetables.
The launch of 'Millet Cafes' has been announced with the aim of promoting millets and millet-based products. Currently, these cafes are operational in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Thrissur. They have clearly stated their intention to expand to the remaining districts starting this August.
Millets are nutrient-rich, containing proteins, vitamins, fiber, and essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. Incorporating them into a balanced diet, as recommended by nutrition experts, can lead to significant health benefits.
Agricultural cooperatives, family groups, and farmer production organizations (FPOs) play crucial roles in raising awareness and promoting millets. These organizations are pivotal in organizing millet cafe initiatives through their agricultural service centers.
