Awareness of millets is increasing worldwide, leading to the emergence of innovative startups. Recently, actress Rakul Preet Singh inaugurated a millet-based restaurant named "Aarambh" in Hyderabad. Now, four friends who left high-paying jobs abroad have launched a vegan-friendly ice cream made from millets, named "Siri Ice Cream." This millet ice cream is currently available in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Prabhu Venugopal and Shashidhar from Tamil Nadu, along with Arun Prakash and Bhargav from Hyderabad, started this venture. They launched Siri Ice Cream in 2020, and now have four outlets. They initially planned a large-scale launch, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their plans. Despite this, millet production and usage have seen a significant increase, thanks to the focus on millet cultivation and promotion by central and state governments.
In the Telugu states, a website, www.millets.news, has been launched to ensure millets reach every region. Siri Ice Cream, made from millets, is gaining popularity among the public.
