A woman entrepreneur from Bhagalpur in Bihar has introduced a new sweet called millet malpua ahead of the Holi festival. She created this healthier version of the traditional dessert with support from the government’s PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme.

Priyanka, also known as Priya Soni, started her millet-based food business after receiving a loan of around ₹1.17 lakh under the scheme. Her goal was to offer festive sweets that are both tasty and nutritious, especially at a time when many people worry about the quality and safety of sweets sold in the market.

The millet malpua is prepared using nutritious grains such as jowar, bajra, and ragi. These ingredients make the sweet a healthier alternative to the regular malpua usually prepared during festivals.

Priyanka now makes nearly 60 different food items using millets. Some of these include millet khichdi, kheer, halwa, and idli. Because of her efforts to promote millet-based foods, people in her area have started calling her the “Millet Lady.”

Launched in 2020, the PMFME scheme supports small food processing businesses by providing financial help, training, and business support to encourage local entrepreneurship.
