Millets, Ghar Ka Khana, and Wellness: Luke Coutinho Praises Modi’s Efforts

Renowned nutrition and lifestyle expert Luke Coutinho praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to improve healthcare in India, particularly his focus on children’s health and tackling obesity. He lauded the government’s initiatives to promote better nutrition, reduce oil consumption, and encourage healthier eating habits. During his visit to an Anganwadi Centre in New Delhi, Coutinho emphasized the importance of early nutrition and the role of science and technology in improving public health.

He strongly supported PM Modi’s push for traditional Indian superfoods like desi ghee and millets, highlighting their rich nutritional value. India produces nine varieties of millets, which are packed with essential minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc. Recognizing their benefits, the Indian government led the initiative to declare 2023 as the International Year of Millets, gaining support from 72 countries. Coutinho stressed that access to local, nutrient-dense foods is key to building a healthier nation.

Coutinho also backed the government's efforts to reduce obesity through public awareness campaigns and mindful eating. He encouraged people to adopt home-cooked meals, saying, "Ghar ka khana should be promoted, and everyone—both men and women—should learn to cook simple, healthy food." He expressed his commitment to supporting PM Modi’s vision for better nutrition, disease prevention, and stronger healthcare systems across India.
