According to a report published in The Hindu, improving agricultural research and strengthening market access are essential to make farming more profitable.
Speaking in Karnataka, Minister Ishwar Khandre emphasized that scientific research plays a crucial role in supporting farmers. He explained that new crop varieties, better seeds, modern techniques, and climate-resilient practices must be developed and delivered to farmers in a timely manner. Research institutions and agricultural universities should ensure that innovations are practical and directly beneficial at the field level.
The minister also highlighted the importance of strong market linkages. Farmers need easier access to markets where they can sell their produce at fair and competitive prices. Without proper market connections, even good production may not translate into better income. Transparent pricing systems, reduced middlemen involvement, and improved supply chains can help farmers earn more.
He further noted that awareness and training programs are necessary so farmers can adopt new technologies and understand market opportunities. By combining research support with better market access, farming can become more sustainable and financially rewarding.
