New Millet Processing Unit Boosts Local Farming with Advanced Services in Raichur

 

The new processing unit will offer several services, including cleaning, de-hulling, and packaging, ensuring that millets are processed to high industry standards.

Located at the Bettada Basaveshwara Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in Jakkaladinni Village, Sirwar Taluka, Raichur district, Karnataka, this millet processing and custom hiring center provides affordable services for local millet farmers. The project was backed by the ICICI Foundation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, which aim to support sustainable agriculture and improve nutrition security.

The unit was officially opened by Venugopal Y. Rao, Project Manager at ICICI Foundation, Karnataka, along with the FPO Project team, representatives from ICAR-IIMR, and board members from various FPOs and farmers.

This facility is designed to serve local farmers and cooperatives, offering access to advanced technology and expertise. Dr. C. Tara Sathyavathi, Director of ICAR-IIMR, mentioned, “This millet processing unit will strengthen the millet value chain by sharing production and processing technologies with small and marginal farmers.”

The inauguration was attended by officials from agricultural universities, line departments, the FPO Board of Directors, the CEO and accountant of the FPO, and over 200 progressive farmers from Jakkaladinni and nearby villages in Raichur district.
