New Millet Unit Opens at Women’s Technology Park in Arunachal Pradesh

A new step towards empowering rural women and promoting local livelihoods was taken in Tirap district with the inauguration of a millet processing unit at the Women’s Technology Park (WTP). The facility was formally launched by MLA Wanglin Lowangdong Aboh on Thursday.

This initiative is being carried out under the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP), supported by the North Eastern Council (NEC), and implemented through the Tirap Community Resource Management Society (TCRMS).

Speaking at the event, MLA Aboh appreciated the efforts made by NERCORMP, NEC, and TCRMS in supporting sustainable income-generating activities. He encouraged farmers and women self-help groups (SHGs) in the area to actively use the new unit for processing and adding value to millet crops. “This unit will help reduce wastage and improve earnings by turning millets into market-ready products,” he said.

District Agriculture Officer T. Wangsu emphasized the health benefits of millets and urged the local community to adopt millet cultivation. TCRMS representatives demonstrated how the machines work and explained how SHGs can benefit from the facility.

The Women’s Technology Park is now set to function as a center for skill development, millet processing, and market linkage in the region. This project is aligned with broader national efforts to revive traditional grains and promote women-led enterprises in the North East.
