PAU Partners with RK Millet Delight to Revolutionize Millet Processing and Product Development

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has teamed up with RK Millet Delight to improve how millets are processed. The goal of this partnership is to create new and better millet-based products, like extruded snacks and instant porridge. This will increase the value of millets and offer consumers healthier and more convenient food options.

Key Points of the Partnership:

  1. Extrusion Processing Technology: The main focus of this partnership is on extrusion processing technology. This method forces ingredients through a machine to create products with specific shapes and textures. For millets, it will be used to make products like puffed snacks and instant porridge. This process improves the taste, texture, and nutritional value of the products, as well as their shelf life.
  2. Memorandum of Agreement (MoA): PAU and RK Millet Delight officially agreed to this partnership by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, PAU’s Director of Research, and Yogesh Salwan from RK Millet Delight signed the agreement. The ceremony was attended by important figures, including Dr. GS Manes from PAU and Nitika Salwan and Lakshay Bhardwaj from RK Millet Delight, showing strong support for the collaboration.
  3. Technological Advancements: Dr. Savita Sharma, Head of PAU’s Department of Food Science and Technology, pointed out that the university has developed technologies to improve millet-based products. These technologies make the products more effective, higher in quality, and longer-lasting. This means millet snacks will taste better and last longer, and instant porridge will be more convenient and nutritious.
  4. Impact and Industry Interest: The new processing technologies for millets are attracting a lot of interest from entrepreneurs and the food industry. People are becoming more aware of the health benefits of millets, such as their high fiber, essential nutrients, and lower glycemic index compared to regular cereals. New products like instant porridge and ready-to-eat snacks are appealing to busy consumers looking for healthier options.

In summary, the partnership between PAU and RK Millet Delight is a key step in improving how millets are processed. By using advanced technology, they aim to make millet products better in quality and more appealing to consumers, promoting better health and expanding the popularity of millets.
