Union Minister Sanjay Seth has called on farmers and agricultural scientists to work together to make Ranchi a leading centre for millet cultivation in India. He said that promoting millets can improve nutrition and also create better opportunities for farmers.
While speaking at a programme in Jharkhand, the minister highlighted the growing importance of millets as healthy and climate-resilient crops. He encouraged farmers to increase millet cultivation and urged scientists to support them with research, improved farming techniques, and value-added products.
Seth explained that millets can grow well even in challenging weather conditions and require fewer resources compared to many other crops. Because of these advantages, expanding millet farming can help strengthen food security and increase farmers’ income.
He also stressed the need for cooperation between farmers, researchers, and institutions to promote millet production, processing, and awareness. Such efforts, he said, could help Ranchi emerge as a major hub for millets in the country.
