The third edition of World Food India 2024 was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, showcasing significant advancements in the food processing industry. During the four-day event, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) in Kundli signed several agreements with major companies, including Tetra Pak, Hexagon Nutrition, LT Foods, and Hindustan Unilever.
Dr. Harinder Singh Oberoi, Director of NIFTEM, stressed the importance of these partnerships. In an interview with ETV Bharat, he said, "When a technology institute collaborates with industry, it sparks new ideas and production solutions." NIFTEM has developed 57 advanced technologies and offers free research and development support to businesses.
Millets were a key focus for future food innovations due to their nutritional benefits and sustainability. Dr. Oberoi discussed the government's efforts to promote millets globally, noting the growing popularity of millet-based products for their health benefits. He also highlighted the export opportunities for Indian startups as demand for these nutritious grains increases.
Dr. Onkar Avinash Babar, Center Manager at NIFTEM, showcased various millet-based products, including Naan Khatai and fortified rice. These ready-to-use solutions aim to address nutritional issues in India, particularly iron deficiency.
The event also featured creative millet-based sweets made by Maheshwar from Prithvi Ann Millets Ahaar, such as millet Gulab Jamun and cookies. World Food India 2024 attracted important government officials, including Ravneet Singh Bittu, and major companies, demonstrating strong collaboration to shape the future of food.
