India’s Yellowfield is spotlighting ancient millets as a smart, affordable, and sustainable substitute for conventional grains like rice and wheat. In response to the growing health and environmental issues linked to traditional staples, the company has pivoted its product focus from rice and palm oil to nutrient-rich millets.
Millets thrive with minimal water, have quick growth cycles, and are naturally drought-resistant, making them an ideal crop for regions grappling with climate change. Packed with protein, fiber, and vital minerals, millets also have a low glycemic index, making them especially beneficial for people managing diabetes, obesity, or fatty liver disease.
Backed by the Indian government’s promotion of millets as “Nutri Cereals,” grains like ragi (calcium-rich), kodo millet(iron-dense), and foxtail millet (brain-supportive) are gaining traction. To encourage wider adoption, Yellowfield is launching consumer-friendly millet-based foods like idlis, dosas, pancakes, and cookies.
This millet revival reflects a growing global push toward resilient, health-focused grains that can nourish both people and the planet.
