Children at Delhi’s anganwadis will enjoy healthier meals this winter, with new dishes like ragi ladoos and peanut 'chaat' added to the menu. The Women and Child Development (WCD) Department has updated the food menu under the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 scheme to enhance nutrition for kids. The revised menu includes millets like bajra, jowar, and soy flour, along with new items such as ragi besan ladoo, lobiya chaat, peanut poha, and flattened rice snacks.
Nutritionist Archana from the WCD explained that winter-friendly ingredients like spinach and sweet bajra have been added to boost the nutritional value. Millets, rich in fiber, protein, iron, and calcium, now form a core part of the meals, ensuring kids receive both calories and essential nutrients for growth.
Millets have also been introduced in the Take Home Ration scheme for pregnant and lactating women, following modern dietary trends focused on nutrient-rich foods. The updated ration now includes soy flour, along with previous items like whole wheat flour, moong dal, and jaggery.
The scheme, with a ₹180 crore budget, aims to improve the nutrition of children and mothers. Meals are prepared daily in 25 kitchens across Delhi, with regular inspections to ensure quality. Children aged 0-3 years receive take-home rations, while those aged 4-6 years get cooked meals at anganwadis.
The Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 initiative is designed to combat malnutrition and improve the health of children, adolescent girls, and mothers.
