Dhamtari Collector Urges Schools to Promote Awareness of Fruits, Flowers, and Millets Among Students

Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh: In a recent initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness and healthy living among students, the Collector of Dhamtari has directed schools to actively engage children in learning about local fruits, flowers, and millets. The objective is to strengthen students’ connection with nature and promote the benefits of traditional crops.

During a review meeting with education officials and school principals, the Collector emphasized the importance of integrating practical knowledge about agriculture and biodiversity into the school curriculum. He encouraged schools to organize activities such as fruit and flower exhibitions, millet-based cooking demonstrations, and gardening projects.

“Educating young minds about the nutritional value of millets and the ecological importance of local flora can inspire healthier lifestyle choices and respect for our natural heritage,” the Collector stated. He also highlighted that such awareness can contribute to preserving indigenous crops and biodiversity while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

The education department has been instructed to collaborate closely with agricultural and horticultural departments to provide the necessary resources and training for teachers. Schools are expected to create dedicated spaces like kitchen gardens and botanical corners to facilitate hands-on learning.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the district administration to promote millets, recognized as “smart foods,” due to their high nutritional content and climate resilience. It also aims to revive traditional farming and dietary habits among the younger generation.

School officials have welcomed the Collector’s directions, noting that these activities will enrich students’ understanding of food security, nutrition, and environmental conservation.
