From Soil to Supper: A Workshop on Organic Farming and Millets

The Jagori Rural Charitable Trust, Chamba Chapter, organized a two-day workshop for farmers from the Tissa development block, focusing on the promotion of traditional nutritious grains like millets and raising awareness about organic farming practices.

Led by Som Krishna, known as the “Millet Promoter of Himachal Pradesh,” the workshop emphasized sustainable agriculture. Farmers were taught how to create organic fertilizers and pest control solutions using everyday household items, making sustainable farming accessible to all.

Participants explored various traditional millets, such as Kodra, Kauni, Bajra, Swan, and Black-Purple Wheat. The sessions included essential techniques for sowing, threshing, and harvesting these crops, highlighting their health benefits and positive impact on the environment. Attendees also learned effective seed germination techniques and best practices for cultivating millets, equipping them with the knowledge to enhance their farming practices and promote food security in their communities.
