India has set a new benchmark in agriculture by recording its highest-ever foodgrain production, reaching around 357.7 million tonnes in the 2024–25 crop year.
This significant rise over the previous year has been supported by increased output of major crops such as rice and wheat, along with steady growth in pulses and oilseeds. Improved productivity and better crop management have also played a key role in boosting overall production.
Favourable weather conditions, along with government support and the adoption of improved farming techniques, have contributed to this achievement. Over the years, India’s foodgrain production has seen consistent growth, reflecting the sector’s strengthening capacity.
The expansion of cultivation areas and higher yields, including in coarse cereals like millets, have further supported this record output. Millets, in particular, are gaining attention for their resilience to climate stress and their nutritional benefits.
This milestone underlines the progress of India’s agricultural sector and its ongoing efforts to enhance food security while promoting sustainable and diversified farming practices.
