The ICAR Manipur Centre hosted a workshop titled "Mainstreaming Millets for Food and Nutritional Security" to emphasize the potential of millets in combating malnutrition and promoting sustainability. Held in collaboration with the ICAR Agri-Business Incubation Centre, the event featured distinguished speakers like Dr. Anupam Mishra, who highlighted millets' rich nutritional profile and their role in mitigating climate change. Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra underscored Manipur's ideal terrain for millet cultivation and encouraged its inclusion in daily diets and cultural practices.
The event also included technical sessions and farmer interactions. Millets, known for their eco-friendly traits, thrive in barren soils, require minimal water, and exhibit drought resistance, making them an excellent choice for improving farmers’ incomes. Their widespread adoption in daily diets not only promotes sustainable agriculture but also encourages their integration into cultural events and ceremonies, replacing less nutritious fast foods. Ningthoujam Gojendra Singh, Director of the Department of Agriculture, participated as the guest of honor. The event included technical sessions and panel discussions, providing farmers and experts with a platform to share insights and experiences.
