To promote entrepreneurship and healthy eating, an orientation programme on millet-based food enterprises was recently organized in Tiruchirapalli. The initiative aimed to equip aspiring women entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills required to start their own millet-focused food businesses.
Organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in collaboration with local institutions and support agencies, the programme introduced participants to various aspects of millet-based enterprises — from nutritional benefits and value addition to marketing strategies and business planning.
Experts highlighted how millets, also known as Shree Anna, are not only rich in nutrients and suitable for health-conscious consumers but also represent a promising avenue for sustainable food businesses. Sessions included guidance on recipe development, product packaging, and accessing government schemes for small and medium-scale food ventures.
The programme also encouraged women to leverage local ingredients, traditional knowledge, and modern food processing techniques to build scalable millet brands that contribute to both community health and rural livelihoods.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about exploring new millet-based products and were motivated by the opportunities available in the growing health food market. The initiative reflects a broader push to empower women, promote millets, and strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship in India.
