A training and awareness programme on millet cultivation was conducted for tribal farmers by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ramanagara, in association with ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad. The initiative was organised under the Tribal Sub-Plan of the Centre of Excellence on Millets to encourage wider adoption of millet farming.

The programme aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge and skills to improve millet production using sustainable and climate-resilient practices. Experts delivered interactive sessions on important aspects such as crop management, pest and disease control, and cost-effective farming techniques.

Farmers were also introduced to opportunities beyond cultivation, including value addition, processing, and better market access, which can help enhance their income. Special emphasis was placed on the nutritional importance of millets and their role in improving household food security.

In addition, participants received guidance on improved seed varieties, efficient resource use, and organic farming practices. Information on certification and accessing premium markets for organic produce was also shared.

The programme saw active participation from tribal farmers, reflecting growing interest in millet-based agriculture. Overall, the initiative focused on strengthening farming knowledge, promoting sustainable agriculture, and supporting better livelihoods through millets.
