On August 19, 2024, a training and demonstration program focused on “Postharvest Value Addition in Millet” was held at the Pachey Samsing Gram Panchayat Kendra. This event brought together 61 farmers and farm women with the goal of promoting entrepreneurship in agriculture by enhancing the value of millets, with a particular focus on empowering women in the farming community.
The program offered a combination of presentations and hands-on training. It covered key topics such as how to process millets, add value to them, and market them effectively. Experts from the ICAR-KVK East Sikkim and the Department of Agriculture in Pakyong District shared their expertise, covering areas like the health benefits of millets, food safety practices, and best practices for packaging and labeling products.
The event ended with a motivational call to action, urging participants to use their newly acquired skills to transform Pachey Samsing into a leading example of millet-based product development in Sikkim. This initiative is part of the CAU-CAEPHT project, which is funded by the Digital India Corporation under the Government of India.
