Uttar Pradesh aims to double its millet-growing area to 2.5 million hectares, with 27 buying centres set to open on October 1. Following Prime Minister Modi's initiative to promote millets as ‘Sri Anna’ (divine foodgrain), the state is focused on increasing millet production, which currently spans about 1.1 million hectares.

The procurement for the 2024-25 season will run from October 1 to December 31, with dedicated centres established in Prayagraj, Kaushambi, and Fatehpur—10 in Prayagraj, 11 in Kaushambi, and 6 in Fatehpur, with separate centres for millet and sorghum.

Farmers must register on fcs.up.gov.in or the Kisan Mitra App to sell their crops, and only registered farmers will be allowed to sell. A toll-free number, 18001800150, is available for assistance.

The government has increased the minimum support prices: ₹2,225 per quintal for maize, ₹2,625 for Bajra, ₹3,371 for hybrid Sorghum, and ₹3,421 for Malwandi Sorghum. Payments to farmers will be made directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts within 48 hours of purchase.

In the 2023-24 season, 147.66 metric tonnes of coarse grains were purchased in Prayagraj, benefiting 1,364 farmers, along with 146.45 metric tonnes of Bajra for 1,344 farmers and 1.21 metric tonnes of Jowar for 20 farmers.
